The Baltic Sea, with the northern part of the Gulf of Bothnia (top), the Gulf of Finland (right) and the Gulf of Riga (directly below image centre) covered in ice. This image was acquired on 15 March 2010. The Baltic Sea is a brackish inland sea bounded by the Scandinavian Peninsula, the mainland of Europe and the Danish islands. Bothnia is a Latinisation of Old Norse botn, meaning "bottom".
