The melody of Ludovico Einaudi's piano composition "Una mattina" is given to cello in this rendition by Gautier Capuçon, with pianist Jérôme Ducros. Conceptualized and designed by The Great Paper Massacre (Matteo Cozzo), a graduate of the Istituto Europeo di Design, this animated video was created using the "collaging" technique.
"Collaging is my favorite technique," the designer explains. "It has two layers of expression: the subjects represented and the texture of the source materials and the overwork, which can work together to convey an infinite number of emotions and tell a story on multiple levels. ... Using the flat layers of paper to mimic a three-dimensional space gives the sense of a diorama, or a little cardboard theatre: the video takes the form of a small, abstract play, amplyfing themes and giving space to metaphors and wonder."
